Welcome to the emergency contraception pharmacy program

Emergency contraception (EC) is available in pharmacies all 50 states without a prescription for consumers 18 and older with proof of age. In nine states (Alaska, California, Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Washington and Vermont) 17 years and older women may get EC directly from specially trained pharmacists without providing an advance prescription.

You don’t need to visit your doctor or clinic first.

This site is not designed to and does not provide medical or legal advice; medical and legal information changes constantly. For most up to date information please visit your local pharmacist and/or doctor.

EC is a safe and effective way to prevent pregnancy — even after sex! Use EC if:

  • Your contraception didn’t work
  • You had unprotected sex
  • You were forced to have sex
